Whether to go or not to go for facials in a skin prone to acne is often a question. People are often worried that acne facials may just aggravate their problem of getting more pimples. Acne is one of the most common skin condition that affects more than 90% of the people especially in the ages of 15-25 years. Adult acne also bothers a lot of people which often crop up when they are stressed or have a big day to attend!

Acne treatment facials

It is a myth that acne facials irritate the skin and cause more break-outs! In fact, facials on acne prone skins are the sure-shot way of getting a healthy tone on the skin and increasing blood circulation of the skin and thus reducing acne!

How do facials for acne treatment work?

  • The steps that a good acne facial involves are: cleansing, gentle exfoliation, steaming, toning and putting face pack. By gently exfoliating the acne prone skin using oat meal powders or almond powders, the clogged pores are opened and the face is cleansed off the dead cells and debris. Steaming also helps in stimulating blood circulation and opening of the pores. One can use effective acne toners that remove any excess sebum from the pores and the final acne medicated face pack soothes and heals the skin.
  • The entire skill is to gently massage the skin while exfoliating and this should be performed by estheticians under the guidance of the dermatologists. Mild to severe acne will not be irritated by this method.
  • Excessive massaging of the skin with heavy and thick creams must also be avoided, as the skin would get irritated. The chemicals in the creams are known to combine with the sebum and further clog them, increasing acne flare-ups! Thus, an expert esthetician must be involved in acne facials.
  • Gentle facial massages just relax the skin and reduce the stress considerably which are also to blame for aggravating acne problem. Thus, acne facials are beneficial.
  • Acne facials must always be followed by daily home regime also, otherwise they are ineffective. One can follow up with application of effective pimple creams that not only treat the acne but also lighten the scars. Such facials can be repeated once in a month.

Facials in acne prone skin

The most popular facial for acne prone skin is to use pulp of tomato mixed in fuller’s earth. The facial begins with steaming of the face and gentle massaging with almond scrub (prepare it yourself by mixing almond powder and rose water). Leave the scrub on the face for 10 minutes and wash off with cold water. Pat dry and apply the tomato-fuller’s earth pack on the face. Leave it for 15 minutes and then wash it away. The toning properties of tomato pulp effectively reduce acne break-outs.
